About This Content

Today I am born, today I die. The Neinzul are an insectoid race of perpetual "younglings" that live for an extremely short span before dying and being superseded by fully-aware and vicious replacements. Their Enclaves form mini-collectives with their own personalities, goals, and desires. In this second expansion to AI War, players face off against the Neinzul minor factions, against new AI types in general, and enlist the help of the friendlier members of this new alien presence.
Enclave Starships bring a long-awaited feature: mobile space docks. New map types and new capturables add more excitement. Optionally, Hybrid Hives bring a new type of AI logic to the game: these free agents are like a coordinated pack of velociraptors hunting you against the backdrop of the regular AI forces. For advanced players, the Hybrid Hives provide more cut-throat opposition than ever.

The lightest of the AI War expansions. Children of Neinzul offers a selection of materials that most players consider 'must haves.'

In terms of ships, the Neinzul younglings offer significant firepower at a tiny cost and incredible build rate. These are the best options you can have for not simply holding off an unexpected threat, but obliterating it. Faced with some of the AI's biggest threats, these are a cheap and efficient way of wearing it down, fast. Also a firm favourite of many players are the Enclave Starships. Fragile, but potentially overwhelming, these offer a means to wear down most tricky AI defence combinations. If you can afford the time. And of course, time equates to risk in this game. When you first meet them, you may wonder why people think they're useful, but it won't take long before you find you never leave your home planet without them.

In terms of AIs, the selection includes the Warp Jumper, from which nowhere is safe. A thoroughly hated opponent. The Support Corps type is perhaps the most interesting though. It's a very weak AI type in itself, and paired with another weak AI type is a pushover, but paired with a strong AI type (or subtype, a feature from the Vengeance of the Machine expansion), it's exceedingly painful to deal with.

In terms of extra toys, the options for sub plots offer enormous amounts of extra entertainment and\/or challenge to any game you play. Hybrid Hives offer a challenge I personally love to deal with, however there's a whole bag of tricks to explore.

Overall, probably the stand out feature for most people are the map types. The X-shaped map is very likely the most-played map style due to its powerful chokepoints. I prefer some of the map types from other expansions, but this map style comes up again and again as a favourite for many players.

There are, simply, no downsides to this expansion. For all that you get, the cost is minimal. And you get so much!. There are several titles like this . . .
